This piece is part of an ongoing new series of work, inspired by all the amazing Melbourne eats that no longer exists. My favourite places which will now only exist in my memory. Ahhh….

No introduction needed on this amazing Melbourne favourite. Ah I have such fond memories of Beatrix. Nat’s cakes and ciabbattas were honestly the best. Even my very asian picky family members agreed. Every time mum came to visit from Singapore, she would takeaway her cakes and pack it into Tupperwares to take home on the 7 hour flight. ‘It’s so nice because it’s not too sweet!’ - And in Asian term, that’s the highest praise for desserts. Haha. Her cakes were THAT good they warranted fragile labels at the airport.

I will always have fond memories of our Saturday Mornings, eating Ciabatta and various cakes in our car. Her little cafe was always full so we didn’t mind a boot picnic! Our favourite was her fish Ciabatta along with the pistachio + lemon cake and Chocolate tart. I also fondly remember giving birth to our son and driving past Beatrix right after we got discharged from the hospital. Nat saw us and loaded us up with a gazillion post-partum sweet treats!

Oh Nat, you’re simply the best and Beatrix will always be such a happy memory for us. Thank you for making the best treats ever <3 I’m no baker but one day, I shall attempt your recipes from your cookbooks!
