Taiyaki / Bungeo-ppang is one of my all time favourite snacks. It’s hard to find these in Melbourne, where I live. So I was so thrilled to find them everywhere in Korea on a recent trip. As a kid, my dad would buy me a Taiyaki after my weekly art classes. Every week, it was a hard decision trying to decide between cheese or red bean filling.

When I first started working, I would always treat myself to a Taiyaki when work was hard. Now as an adult, i’ve learnt how to make it at home. Watching the steam rise and sides crisping up… the smell of freshly made taiyakis filling the air - this reminded me so much of my childhood. To me, a Taiyaki would always remind me of family, of home.
